Halloween Safety Tips


With Halloween coming up there will be a lot of parties and events that college students will attend, here are a few safety tips to ensure you a fun and safe Halloween:

1. Keep your money and ID on you at all times - You don't want to go through the headache of losing something valuable to you so make sure you have a bag, purse, or pocket you can safetly secure your money and id in.

2. Stay off roads - If possible avoid driving Halloween night there tend to be a lot of reckless/dunken drivers out on Halloween.

3. Inspect your treats - If you go to a party and theres candy check it to make sure it has not already been open. If it has been opened or looks suspicious DON'T EAT IT!

4. Know who you're talking to - If you will be attending a costume party somestimes people will have on a mask or identical costumes so make sure you know who you are talking to. You would hate to be conversing with a stranger!

5. Don't eat too much candy - To avoid stomach aches, sickness, and weight gain; monitor the amount of candy you consume during Halloween.

Kennesaw State University's MEBUS Students Looking for Unsigned Acts


The students in the Music and Entertainment Business Program at Kennesaw State University have teamed up with Playpromedia.com and Sony and are looking for unsigned artists and bands to compete in a contest to win a production deal with Sony Entertainment. There will be an event on November 12th held on KSU's campus for these acts to showcase their talent. From there the people from Playpromedia and an A&R from Sony will select a number of artists/bands and play their music on playpromedia.com. The students in the program are serving as A&Rs to find talent to go to the event and sign up on the website. Along with the help of the students, which ever artist can traffic the most people to playpromedia.com and get the most votes will get the chance to sign a production deal with Sony.

Jersey Shore Conference at the University of Chicago


This Friday the University of Chicago will host a one day conference on "Jersey Shore Studies." Some topics will be: "Guidosexuality,'' "You're not even Italian," and "Guido Identity" just to name a few. The conference is expected to have high-profile speakers and panelist. Of course the conference is the first of its kind and its even gotten a shout out from Jimmy Kimmel. The point of the conference is to engage students into popular culture and encourage them to research their interest.

President Obama Plans to Lower Student Loan Burden


This week President Obama annouced a new student loan plan to help future graduates pay back their student loans. In this new plan there will be lower monthly payments. The plan is expected to take place next year (2012). Even though this plan won't help recent graduates it is a step in the right direction to helping those with loads and loads of student loans. The Big 12 Gets WVU





















A reliable source says that the Big 12 has approved West Virginia University to replace the Missouri Tigers when they move to the Southeastern conferance. So far niether the school or Big 12 have annouced it. more

University of Hawaii Students Capture Planet being Born


Students of the University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy have captured the first direct image of a planet being born. One of the students describe the planet as being formed out of gas and dust. This new planet is circling a 2-million-year-old star that is about 450 light years from Earth. more

UCF Students Get involved in the Occupy Movement


The largest protest in Orlando's history, Occupy Orlando, has participation from UFC students who have never organized for any cause in their lives. The Student Labor Action Project(SLAP) posted hundreds of fliers on the UCF campus to promote involvement in the event.
Considering the average college student debt is hovering around $60,000, it's not hard to see why students would be eager to get involved.
