Halloween Safety Tips

With Halloween coming up there will be a lot of parties and events that college students will attend, here are a few safety tips to ensure you a fun and safe Halloween:

1. Keep your money and ID on you at all times - You don't want to go through the headache of losing something valuable to you so make sure you have a bag, purse, or pocket you can safetly secure your money and id in.

2. Stay off roads - If possible avoid driving Halloween night there tend to be a lot of reckless/dunken drivers out on Halloween.

3. Inspect your treats - If you go to a party and theres candy check it to make sure it has not already been open. If it has been opened or looks suspicious DON'T EAT IT!

4. Know who you're talking to - If you will be attending a costume party somestimes people will have on a mask or identical costumes so make sure you know who you are talking to. You would hate to be conversing with a stranger!

5. Don't eat too much candy - To avoid stomach aches, sickness, and weight gain; monitor the amount of candy you consume during Halloween.

UCF Students Get involved in the Occupy Movement

The largest protest in Orlando's history, Occupy Orlando, has participation from UFC students who have never organized for any cause in their lives. The Student Labor Action Project(SLAP) posted hundreds of fliers on the UCF campus to promote involvement in the event.
Considering the average college student debt is hovering around $60,000, it's not hard to see why students would be eager to get involved.

Halloween Costume Ideas

Halloween parties are a big deal to college students. With that being said Halloween is just around corner and a lot of college students are in dyer need of costume ideas and affordable ones as well. So here are a few ideas:

- Jersey shore cast member: Dressing up as one of your favorite characters is a great idea. Take a look in your closet or a friend's closet, I'm sure you could find clothing to resemble a cast member.
- A classic character: Try dressing up as Michael Jackson, Elvis, or even Marilyn Monroe. These characters are so popular that it would be easy to find their best known outfits to wear.
-A horror movie character: Dress up as Jason, Jigsaw, or Dracula. Choosing one of these characters will surely give your friends a freight!

Big East Invites Schools to Conference

The Big East has invited five universities to join its conference. The universities are UCF (all sports), Houston (all sports), SMU (all sports), Boise St. (football only), and Air Force (football only). These schools have been informed that if they accept, the Big East would raise there exit fees to $10 million, which is a 100% increase. They have also extended an invite to Navy for football only. If Navy does not accept the offer Temple is next in line. One problem for Boise St. and Air Force is if they accept they would have to wait for the NCAA to vote to change a rule stating that no school can be in one confernce for football and another for its other sports. If these schools accept the Big East will soon have schools as far west as Colorado and Idaho.

Lil Romeo does commercial for ICDC College

Rapper Lil Romeo has been spotted in a commercial promoting ICDC College. ICDC is a school that is known for its fast track diploma program. Recently the commercial has made its way to youtube and has not received a good response. The commercial raises a few eyebrows because Lil Romeo is a college drop out (he dropped out of USC) and he is seen rapping (actually you could call it singing) in the commercial, which comes off as somewhat of a joke. So now the question is will the school drop the commercial due to its negative response?

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has reported over 1800 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 are injured in alcohol related injuries and death. Local schools are working hard to keep students from driving while intoxicated. Now that homecoming is around the corner, extra precautions are now being put in place.

Recording Artist Wale was set to perform Sunday at Kennesaw State in Georgia as part of the school’s homecoming activities. Unfortunately, the hip-hop star had to cancel at the last minute because of “touring issues.” The school issued a statement on the Kennesaw Activities Board webpage as well as sending emails informing students of the cancellation. This left many KSU students upset and disappointed. As of now, the KAB committee is negotiating to get Wale to reschedule. Refunds are also being issued to the disappointed students.
